D23 Post Script

D23 Carousel of ProjectsJust returned from D23 in Anaheim and it was AWESOME. Here were some of the highlights:

(1) Pavilions: Walt Disney Parks and Resorts (Carousel of Projects), Disney Interactive Media Group (Disney Universe and Epic Mickey), and Disney Living (Retro 51)

(2) Exhibitors: KINECT™: Disneyland Adventures from Microsoft Studios, Ridemakerz® and Collectors Forum A-Z

(3) Shopping: D23 Expo Dream Store and Walt Disney Archives Treasure Trove

(4) Venues: Stage 23 (Radiator Springs Reality: Imagineering Cars Land for Disney California Adventure) and Stage 28 (History of the Disneyland Hotel, The Wonderful Worlds of Disney…Behind The Page: Kingdom Keepers, Now Part of Our World: The Making of The Little Mermaid ~ Ariel’s Undersea Adventure, It’s A Small World: Celebrating 45 Years, Voices of the Parks, Legends of Walt Disney Imagineering, and Imagineering’s Guide to Creativity and Innovation

Personal Highlights: Sitting in a panels with Marty Sklar, Alice Davis, Kevin Rafferty, Jodi McLaughlin, Tony Baxter, Richard Sherman, and John Lasseter. Listening to younger Imagineers like Owen Yoshino and Scot Drake. The concepts, models, and plans for the Fantasyland expansion featured at the Carousel of Projects.

Here are two videos from the D23 panels. The first is Richard Sherman and the second is Kevin Rafferty. It was an exhausting weekend (was on the red eye last night but forcing myself to stay awake) and I never even made it to Disneyland or California Adventure.

Regrets: I didn’t see Dave Smith (Archivist) or Warren Spector (Epic Mickey). Also, missed Walt Disney Parks and Resorts behind-the-scenes presentation in the D23 Arena, A Conversation With the Pixar Creative Team, More of The Wonderful World of Vintage Disneyland and Walt Disney World, History of the Disneyland Hotel, Legends of Walt Disney Imagineering, and A Good Look at Buena Vista Street: Sneaking a Peek at the New Entrance to Disney California Adventure. The panels were widely popular which required joining the queue line several hours before the event…this often meant forfeiting the panel before (e.g. Legends of Walt Disney Imagineering for Imagineering’s Guide to Creativity and Innovation).

And of course NOT having enough time to visit Disneyland and California Adventure.
