I was in Convetry this weekend for football, but ALL matches were cancelled in honor of Queen Elizabeth II (1926-2022). I visited Coventry Cathedral and the Chapel of Christ in Gethsemane. The Angel of Agony is by Steven Sykes who designed the gilded cross over the altar at St Margarets-on-Thames.
Mass was at St Osburg’s. It’s a beautiful church and has its own lovely stained glass by Leo Earley celebrating the Assumption of Mary. I thought it was by Harry Clarke initially because of the vibrant colours and the softness and beauty of the Blessed Virgin. I am mesmerized by Clarke’s Saint Elizabeth of Hungary at St Mary’s Church.
The bookend for the weekend is Proms 2022: Unmissable Moments on the BBC.
