Archbishop of Canterbury

The Anchoress is the steward of one mighty blog. While many of us would like to forget 9-11 the Islamification of Britain (and Europe) continues its unrelenting advance. While the left dismisses our reportage as sabre rattling (or a planned effort to perpetuate fear to arrest personal freedom) the advance continues and is abetted by a complicit (nay, clueless left).

Whether it's protesting images of Mohammed in Wikipedia or the Archbishop of Canterbury's remarks about Sharia law in Britain being "unavoidable" the advancement, purposes and plans of radical Islam are real.

The best book of 2006 is America Alone by Mark Steyn and coupled with the rise of democratic/liberal fascism as presented by Jonah Goldberg (and further advanced by middle/third way Mead in God and Gold) the emerging reality for Western Civilization is grim.

The country should take notice when the Denmark equivalent of the New York Times contemplates whether or not George W. Bush was a great president.

The Captain weighs in:
The Archbishop forgot that Britain operates under a representative government, not a theocracy. The adoption of shari'a would obliterate that system and place the UK under the thumb of imams -- a prospect that even British Muslims find distasteful. Khalid Mahmood, a Muslim MP for Labour, noted that Muslims around the world fight to free themselves from such systems, and wondered aloud whether Williams knows what shari'a actually entails.

It's not the first time a member of the clergy has suggested appeasement and surrender for a strategy against expansion of radical Islam. The endorsement of these strategies by the leader of the Anglican Church is especially disheartening, however. That the leader of a worldwide sect of Christianity thinks of shari'a as "inevitable" should prompt questions about his fitness for that office.

Islamo-Fascism Awareness Week

The focus was on the violent oppression of Muslim women as thousands of students campuses across the country on attended and in some cases protested against speeches and panel discussions marking the first day of Islamo Fascism Awareness Week.

Events Monday involved campuses ranging from UC Berkeley in the West to George Washington University in the East.

At the University of Wisconsin-Madison David Horowitz spoke to 600 students and various members of the community about the oppression of women in Islam and the silence coming from women's studies departments on America's campuses regarding this issue. The volatile crowd quieted immediately when Horowitz began his speech by showing an enlarged photograph of a Muslim woman on her knees being shot in the back of the head by Muslim fundamentalists.

Bumper Sticker War?

WARNING**WARNING**WARNING

This post was updated with a link to graphic footage here to demonstrate the depravity of these savages.

Article 1
LONDON (Reuters) - A Kurdish woman was brutally raped, stamped on and strangled by members of her family and their friends in an "honor killing" carried out at her London home because she had fallen in love with the wrong man.

Article 2
Iran launches new crackdown on unIslamic fashion

Iran on Monday launched a new wave of a moral crackdown against women who "dress like models" and men whose hairstyles are deemed unIslamic, police said.

Tehran's police force dispatched dozens of police cars and minibuses into the early evening rush-hour to enforce the dress rules at major squares in the city centre, an AFP correspondent said.

The new "plan to increase security in society" -- which is limited to Tehran but will later extend nationwide -- comes after a pre-summer drive by the police resulted in thousands of warnings and hundreds of arrests.

PBS Censorship

PBS continues to supress the film/documentary "Islam vs. Islamism". Roger L. Simon reviews it here.
Burke’s doc is a riveting and creatively made film about the most important subject of our time: what to do about radical Islam? It confronts this dilemma in a sly, novelistic manner, inter-weaving the stories of good, moderate Muslims with the Imams and supposedly "true Muslims" who, not surprisingly, accuse the moderate Muslims of not being Muslims at all. Soon enough we learn these Imams are apologists for terrorism and for the worst kind of medieval religious sadism. (One of them enthusiastically endorses the stoning to death of adulterers by holding up a Koran. "I didn’t make this up," he says proudly. "It is written here.") The mostly mild-mannered moderate Muslims are shown to be at risk for the lives, some of them accompanied everywhere by bodyguards.

PBS' views seem particularly troglodytic today in light of recent events at Fort Dix. But that is the least of it. What is far more important to our country is that our Public Broadcasting network, an organization supported by taxpayer money, is practicing the most obvious censorship. PBS is operating here in the manner of similar institutions in the former Soviet Union and in modern day Iran – financing artists and then withholding distribution of their work when it is not deemed ideologically "correct". It’s a form of thought-control and it’s unconscionable.
202-879-9600 is the telephone number you can use to reach Patricia Harrison, president of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, to demand the film "Islam vs. Islamists" be aired uncensored or released for airing elsewhere.

Polygamous lesbians flee Sharia

The great fear on the left has always been that the oppressors (Republicans, Chrisitians, and Conservatives) would round them under the cover of darkness. The movie V for Victory kind of followed that premise. This article from the BBC (which is a massively biased and pro-left rag) is a bit frightening.
A Nigerian lesbian who "married" four women last weekend in Kano State has gone into hiding from the Islamic police, with her partners.

Under Sharia law, adopted in the state seven years ago, homosexuality and same-sex marriages are outlawed and considered very serious offences.

Lesbianism is also illegal under Nigeria's national penal code.

In NO uncertain terms

The democratic leadership doesn't get it at all. Blinded by dislike of this president that they can't see clearly what is going on in Iraq.

Because when you say the war is lost, the next question to ask is if we lost, who won? Because in war, there are winners and there are losers. And if the majority leader has declared us the loser, then the question needs to be asked by the world and this country: who won that war in iraq? Well, I tell you who will claim credit for winning the war in Iraq. Al Qaeda.

If you believe giving these groups Iraq makes us safer, you know nothing about human behavior or history as a whole.

When you give into the dark forces of humanity, when you allow people who slaughter the innocent to win wars, you don't end their desire. You whet their appetite.

Zamboanga City, Philippines - Al-Qaeda-linked Muslim Abu Sayyaf rebels have beheaded seven workers they abducted earlier this week on a southern Philippine island, the military said Friday.

Ineffectual Blair

Lefties don't like him because he was part of the coaliton and many on the right realized his bravado was based on smoke and mirrors.

When Rumsfeld said, "As you know, you go to war with the Army you have. They're not the Army you might want or wish to have at a later time," he was deftly referencing the fact that Bill Clinton spent eight years gutting the military.

Britain is a BIG fat welfare state and they have also gutted their armed services. The situation is probably worse because labor has been in control for 20 years? How long has Blair been Prime Minister?

Mr Blair expounded his "doctrine of international community" in Chicago in April 1999, during Nato's air war against Serbia. It was an emotive appeal to America to choose internationalism over isolationism and, given the horrors of ethnic cleansing, was none the worse for that. But what the Prime Minister has signally neglected in his zeal for pre-emptive action is to provide Britain with the military means to bring it to a successful conclusion. Under strength and poorly equipped, the Armed Forces have been stretched to the limit, and their prospects look no rosier under Mr Blair's successor, whoever that may be. Labour has traded on the professionalism of the men and women in uniform to grandstand on the international stage, and that cynical attitude has now caught up with it.

"Good Nuclear News"

President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was attending ceremonies at the Natanz enrichment plant, where the Iranian press has speculated he will announce the installation of 3,000 centrifuges, a dramatic expansion of the program. State-run TV said only that he would announce "good nuclear news" in a speech at the ceremony.

Across Iran, school bells rang to mark the "national day of nuclear energy." The government sent out SMS messages of congratulations for the occasion to millions of mobile phone users.

In Tehran, some 200 students formed a human chain at Iran's Atomic Energy Organization while chanting "death to America" and "death to Britain." The students burnt flags of the U.S. and Britain.

Facing the truth...

Michael Barone has a great article on Nancy Pelosi's "trip" to Syria. What I like about his article is that it delves into the heart of ALL DEM thinking on America.
At the heart of that thinking is this proposition: We’re the problem. America, or rather George W. Bush, is the problem. We’re not doing enough to get the Israelis and Syrians together; we’re not doing enough to address the grievances of the Palestinian people (than whom “nobody is suffering more,” according to Barack Obama); we’re not doing enough to mollify the dictators who are working against us.

Akin to this is the feeling shared by most Democrats and, it seems, by most American voters, that if we can just get our troops out of Iraq all will be well in the world.
Maybe it's the DEM inability to speak in absolutes that makes them naive?
There are evil leaders out there — the mullahs of Iran, Assad and his thugs, Kim Jong Il, Hugo Chavez of Venezuela and his pal Fidel Castro — who hate the United States and want to do us as much damage as they can.

They don’t hate us just because the Republican Congress didn’t raise the minimum wage or because George W. Bush has a stubborn streak and speaks with a West Texas accent. They hate us because of our freedoms and because we have worked to export those freedoms around the world.

Friendship, hope, and a determination to be on the road to peace are not enough to protect us in this world. A speedy exit from Iraq might make many Americans less unsettled while watching cable news — for a while. But it wouldn’t make us safer. It will just leave us more likely to face the kind of surprise we had on Sept. 11, 2001.
The other piece of Barone's article is this notion that returning Clinton to the White House will somehow restore peace. He writes:
I recall reading a few weeks ago an article on Democratic fund raising that quoted a woman as saying that “we were very safe under the Clinton administration.” No, we weren’t “very safe” — we just thought we were. Bill Clinton knew we weren’t “very safe,” and he took some steps — unfortunately, not enough — to make us safer.
Bill Clinton postponed (and not even successfully - USS COLE) what is inevitable and what NO amount of wine and cheese at Davos is going to solve.

What Nancy wants (what all DEMS) want is to be left alone to build cities like San Francisco. And DEMS do this by hiding behind bankrupt organizations like the UN (or mingling in Davos) because in the mind of a DEM as long as you're talking progress is being made. I guess as long as you FEEL like progress is being made ethnic cleansing in Darfur is just background noise.

But the world Nancy wants is just an illusion. Just like Hitler wasn't content with Czechoslovakia, Iran and Syria won't be content until Israel is wiped from the face of the map. What troubles me these days is how indifferent the left is to Israel. I believe they view Israel as an obstacle (just like religion) to the little Utopia that Nancy is the spokesman (er, spokesperson) for.

The British are Disgraceful

War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself.

- John Stuart Mill

The sun has set...

I have been reading the recorded remarks of some of the British sailors and marines. The more I read, the worse it looks—for Britain, I mean, now plainly in its last days as a nation.

I cannot imagine how patriotic Englishmen feel about this. (Though you can get some idea from the comments posted to the web sites of UK newspapers like the Telegraph.) I am no longer a British citizen, having taken up US citizenship 5 years ago. Even so, I am burning with shame at this disgrace to British honor. And from the Royal Navy—the Senior Service—of all places!

I shall watch with interest what happens to Britain over the next few years. I shan't care, though. However bad it is, they have it coming. Goodbye, Britain.

An automaton weighs in...

Why isn't he killing easter bunnies!!!!!

Okay...Contrast that image with this and this (CONTENT WARNING). Here's Barnett with an FAQ on the hostage crisis. My favorite is #8:
Why didn’t Iran just kidnap 15 American soldiers?

That’s the question that no one seems to ask, especially those who consider Iran’s actions some sort of response to American wrong-doing. I’ve long argued in these virtual pages that George W. Bush scares the holy shinola out of the world’s bad men. [LIMESTONE NOTE: He used an absolute! Danger!!!!] If Iran tried this stunt on American troops, it’s hard to imagine President Bush being mindful of pleas to give democracy time to work.

This is where Bush is most effective as a wartime leader. For all his faults in communicating and building consensuses and crafting a coherent post-occupation strategy in Iraq, we’re fortunate to have him on that wall when the world’s bad men come calling.
I'm thinking of that picture of Pelosi in a Hijab. Neville Chamerlin. Google it.

National Character

Once upon a time my dad made some snarky comments about my fondness for George Orwell. I was a tad obsessed and spent a year (or two) reading everything he wrote. His biggest offense, as far as I could discern from my Dad's comments, was his lack of Sainthood. But I liked his prose because it was all done simply and plainly (anything else is wasted on me).

In my opinion, Orwell underwent a conversion of sorts that's necessary here in the US. In many essays he damns the British Empire, but at the end of his life, envisioning the stark alternatives, he came to see the redemptive qualities of his own national charater.

If there is hope, wrote Winston, it lies in the proles.

Orwell was a man who understood the human condition and his essays mean more now because of our own precipitous slide into the primordial ooze. This is Orwell some 50+ years ago:
What has kept England on its feet during the past year? In part, no doubt, some vague idea about a better future, but chiefly the atavistic emotion of patriotism, the ingrained feeling of the English-speaking peoples that they are superior to foreigners. For the last twenty years the main object of English left-wing intellectuals has been to break this feeling down, and if they had succeeded, we might be watching the SS men patrolling the London streets at this moment. Similarly, why are the Russians fighting like tigers against the German invasion? In part, perhaps, for some half-remembered ideal of Utopian Socialism, but chiefly in defence of Holy Russia (the “sacred soil of the Fatherland”, etc etc), which Stalin has revived in an only slightly altered form. The energy that actually shapes the world springs from emotions—racial pride, leader-worship, religious belief, love of war—which liberal intellectuals mechanically write off as anachronisms, and which they have usually destroyed so completely in themselves as to have lost all power of action.
This is what the West needs now...not some phony politicos engaged in listening tours and conversations.

Epilogue & Disclaimer

The idea for this entry came from an article written by John Derbyshire called In Memory of Private Moyse. My outlook is very grim these days and I probably have a case of the Derbs. Coping suggestions?

Anti-war protesters arrested at Pelosi’s office

CODEPINK members were crying outside Pelosi’s office. When asked why, Rae Abileah, 24, said she was crying out of “outrage that this is all we can get from the Democrats,” referring to the Iraq supplemental funding bill, scheduled for a vote Friday.

Source

The President will speak @ 1:45 PM EST. White House says President will veto bill.

***UPDATE***

Examples of what the Democrats consider 'urgent' needs that are part of their Iraq Supplemental Funding bill:

- $25 million for payments to spinach producers
- $120 million to the shrimp industry
- $74 million for peanut storage
- $5 million for shellfish, oyster and clam producers

The good news- DEMS who ran and won in more conservative districts on a platform against pork have signed the bill! Here's the list of Blue Dog Democrats who have betrayed campaign pledges:

Nancy Boyda (KS-2)
Heath Schuler (NC-11)
Nick Lampson (TX-22)
Tim Mahoney (FL-22)
Harry Mitchell (AZ-5)

***UPDATE II***

Here is an explanation (via Power Line and GOP leadership) why Republicans did not make a motion to recommit the bill:
Republicans could have proposed a motion-to-recommit designed to cut both the Murtha-inspired "timeline for withdrawal" language and eliminating billions in unrelated spending.

Republican Leadership therefore decided that the Democrats - all Democrats, exclusively - should be held accountable for this inexcusable war supplemental. It sends the wrong message to our troops in harms way, sets timelines for withdrawal that increase the likelihood of their harm, and forces them to carry Democrat pork barrel spending to boot. No excuses for the voters back home - you are either for this bill or against it.

The Democrats had one choice on the floor - side with the troops or with General Pelosi. They chose the latter.
The GOP needs to pounce and this is great fodder for campaign ads in 2008!

How did your representative vote? Shays voted for the troops and against the DEM pork-laden cut and run plan.

***UPDATE III***

Here is Allah from Hot Air:
No one’s enthusiastic about the bill and it’ll die in the Senate or on Bush’s desk, but at least she [Pelosi] succeeded in asserting her authority. That’s the only thing that was accomplished here, not counting the fingerpointing that’ll start once the bill fails and both parties blame each other for not funding the troops.
A complete list of the sweeteners Nancy needed to get this DEM bill passed.

Dems seek to bar U.S. attacks on Iran

WASHINGTON (AP) - Democratic leaders in Congress lobbed a warning shot Friday at the White House not to launch an attack against Iran without first seeking approval from lawmakers.

"The president does not have the authority to launch military action in Iran without first seeking congressional authorization," Senate Democratic leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., told the National Press Club.

Limestone Commentary
I guess the DEMS need to give the UN more time to pass sanctions? I don't think it has anything to do with the UN. The DEMS hate America and view Iran as an ally. The DEMS need to give Iran more time to harass Israel, send more terrorists to Iraq and incite our neighbors in South America. I'm quite certain Reid aspires to serve in an Ahmadenijad Administration.

**URGENT UPDATE**

Reid provided Ahmadenijad with an answer. Priceless. I think Nimoy needs to host an In Search of the Democratic Alpha Male this month. The DEMS are appeasers and it will not work with these islamofascists.

War with Iran

Interesting Theory?

Jay Nordlinger posted this over at NRO:
I have a friend who, in a phone conversation last weekend, said the unsayable. Come to think of it, this friend makes a specialty of saying the unsayable. That is one reason he is invaluable.

He said, “The Democrats have to win in 2008 — I mean, the whole enchilada: House, Senate, and presidency.” You ought to know that my friend is a staunch conservative Republican. “Why?” I said. “Why do they have to win?” He answered, “Because that’s the only way they will be fully onboard the War on Terror. They won’t fully support it otherwise, because they will always be trying to trip up the Republicans. If you want the Democrats onboard the War on Terror, they have to be in charge. Period.”

A dark, dark proclamation. And redolent of ol’ Joe, the one from Wisconsin. I am not entirely convinced of its wrongness, however.
I don't agree with this. DEMS are like the fox in the Stinky Cheese Man story...It's in their nature to be appeasers, partially because they've been trained to hold America (and Americans) in contempt, but mostly because its inherent. Remember that smug bastard Dean wrote about yesterday (see below)?

“I want this country to learn a lesson.”

This is the mindset of the modern democrat. They believe in the pursuit of happiness and NOT the preservation of happiness. They hold history and tradition in contempt and are convinced of their own intellectual superiority.

"She had one of the most stupid faces I've ever seen."

They would use 4 to 8 years of absolute power to continue their systematic dismantling of America.

***UPDATE***FLASHBACK***

Absolute DEM power would resemble Clinton's 8 years. That's good right? Can you objectively answer that? How much progress was made on global warming, AIDS in Africa, dealing with Osama Bin Laden, nuclear proliferation, or our appetite for cheap Chinese goods from Big Box retailers? People "felt good" because their wallets were swollen (go, go Internet days), but Clinton (and the DEMS) didn't use the luxury that prosperity afforded to ask difficult questions. Clinton is a hero to many becuase he listened and was good at paying lip service to anything and everything. But what did he really accomplish? Listening (and paying lip service) isn't a substitute for taking action.

In addition to never asking tough questions during Clinton's 8 years, the media continues to perpetuate the myth of these golden, not a problem in the world, fantasies.

Don't delay the inevitable...

From the President's speech last night:
Succeeding in Iraq also requires defending its territorial integrity and stabilizing the region in the face of extremist challenges. This begins with addressing Iran and Syria. These two regimes are allowing terrorists and insurgents to use their territory to move in and out of Iraq. Iran is providing material support for attacks on American troops. We will disrupt the attacks on our forces. We'll interrupt the flow of support from Iran and Syria. And we will seek out and destroy the networks providing advanced weaponry and training to our enemies in Iraq.
Now he should ask every American to give up one SUV, one extra foam latte per week, and one less trip per month to Wall Mart or Target for unnecessary Chinese goods. Consider the benefits:

One less SUV = Less carbon emissions and dependency on foreign oil and encourages use of mass transit.

One less extra foam latte = Reduces exploitation of Ethiopian coffee farmers and the money could be set aside (maybe in a lock-box) to fund the GWOT.

One less trip per month to Wall Mart or Target will reduce the national deficit the NY TIMES and Lou Dobbs keep wailing about.

Bombings kill 6, hurt 27 in Philippines

This is from Reuters:
But with Americans already concerned over increased government surveillance under President George W. Bush's war against terrorism, the mere suggestion of a camera-equipped plane over public areas sparked controversy in this intensively independent region.
Yes. The war against terrorism is a local issue waged by one man against a pious and peaceful group of misunderstood neardowells. Also, terror attacks and islamofascism NEVER existed before the President.

And these bombings in the Philippines didn't happen, nor did the tensions in Somalia.

It’s interesting: if the Holocaust “conference” decides that the Holocaust didn’t happen, well, then the justification for Israel is specious and founded on lies, and the mullahs are justified in redressing a mistake. I have the awful feeling that terms, conditions and justifications are being set right before our eyes, and the putative leaders seem unwilling to acknowledge what most canny observers infer.

It’ll all make horrible sense. In retrospect.
